Maybe emissions requirements are easier with 4 strokes? Or possibly future upgrade paths easier with GE for NS? Find it interesting the sd40-2 from the 1970's and 80's still are "useful" . But sd60 & 70's are cast off with far less years on them. Like steam before them, two strokes are from another ...

That's 5, and they were classified as "Junk", what makes them junk? If they have the 710 series two strokes...is it the trucks? Suspension?

So the four sd70m-2's that went to NYS&W fall into the "notoriously loud and uncomfortable" class? Wonder if they got a smok'in deal! I've see one of the four, not the leader either, a sd40-2 was.

Of course I like seeing old EMD power almost as much as Alco's ; And for what ever reason many of the smaller short lines went that direction. Is it because the old two two stroker's are still supported? Or like detriot diesel motors in other applications they simply last longer than their 4 stroke ...
