CR3066 EB B-1-G 2.jpg
Conrail GP40-2 #3066Consecutively numbered Conrail GP40-2s #3066 and #3065 lug 8 cars of NS local job B-1-G eastbound through downtown Kalamazoo on their way back to Botsford Yard. The last tank cars in their train are just coming past BO Tower, and the track curving to the left is the wye to the BO and Kalamazoo Secondaries. If there is much switching to be done west of town, sometimes the train will spend the night there and return the next day, usually arriving in Kalamazoo between noon and 1PM. Their train included 4 tankcars, 1 boxcar, and 3 bulkhead flatcars. 9/27/06GP30M4216Oct 04, 2006

The first five cars directly behind the locomotives are old baggage cars and this is how the big animals are transported - 1st class service! How nice the sun decided to come out as the headend of this train passed by. 9/25/06.GP30M4216Oct 04, 2006

NS8825.jpg
Norfolk Southern D8-40C #8825A full seven loocmotives are at the front of manifest 39J as they proceed past BO Tower doubling their Kalamazoo pickup. When the pickup is over about 40 cars, if possible they will proceed straight on track 2 west from the yard, rather than around the wye at BO, to minimize the possibility for derailment when shoving back into the yard or to their train. The headend lineup includes NS D8-40C #8825, an NS D9-40CW, another NS D8-40C, an NREX SD40T-2, a NS GP38-2 high hood, a Conrail GP40-2, and an HLCX GP38M-4. Quite a colorful mix! NS 3543.jpg
NS D8-32B #3543A pair of Norfolk Southern D8-32B locomotives lead manifest train 36-E northbound over the Amtrak Michigan Line in downtown Kalamazoo, on a warm August 24, 2006. The "Granny" as it is commonly known, is usually between 20 and 40 cars during the middle of the week, but this day it was 73! A pair of the rare D8-32Bs are fairly common on the headend. They are on the old Pennsylvania Railroad line, bound for Hughart Yard in Grand Rapids. 36-E and southbound counterpart 37-E operate Monday-Saturday, and are often seen in the morning through Kalamazoo. GTW GP38-2 #4920The Sunday edition of CN921, the Kalamazoo Switch Run, is shown on August 13, 2006 heading south on the NS Upjohn Industrial, the old PRR line south of town. They have just pulled the three CN boxcars from Arvco Containers, and spotted two more on their spur. Familiar caboose #47046 brings up the rear. Power this day is provided by clean GT GP38-2 #4920, although power is often provided by one of Grand Trunk's GP9R rebuilds. They are shown at the Walnut St. Crossing, heading for Kilgore Yard and eventually their home base at Battle Creek. What a nice birthday photo!GP30M4216Sep 03, 2006

Conrail GP40-2 #3062Visiting Conrail Quality GP40-2 #3062 is on the head end of NS local job B-57, on the North Pass in Kalamazoo. B-57 is the night turn from Kalamazoo's Botsford Yard to switch at Battle Creek and return. When the crew is short on time, they will pull their train onto the North Pass rather than back it into the yard. A day crew will then come on duty and take their train into the yard to break it up. Lately (May 06), they have been running with an engine on each end of this train. May 5, 2006.GP30M4216May 23, 2006
