NORTH BALTIMORE -- Crews are on the scene of a train derailment in North Baltimore.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department says a freight train derailed at the Tarr Street rail crossing around noon, and the wreckage fell on an automobile.

The sheriff's department says there are people trapped in the car, and there are several injuries. Fire and rescue crews from North Baltimore and two other fire departments are working at the scene.

Life Flight was called, but then cancelled, because the helicopter couldn't fly in the current rainy weather.

The Emergency Operations Center for CSX Railroad confirms it was a CSX train involved in the derailment. Witnesses on the scene say there are 8 or 9 train cars on their sides.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says most of the train crossings between North Baltimore and I-75 will be blocked until the incident is cleaned up.

North Baltimore is about 40 miles south of Toledo.

This is a breaking story, and as more information comes in, we'll post it in this space.

According to its web site, CSX Corporation, based in Jacksonville, Fla., owns companies providing rail, intermodal and rail-to-truck transload services. The company ships cargo between ports around the country, and between more than 200 short line railroads.

CSX maintains 2,100 miles of track in Ohio, and handles 280,000 carloads of freight annually. CSX trains ship coal, automobiles, corn and sheet/steel through Ohio. The company maintains major rail yards in Willard, Toledo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus.

NYC E7A #4030 on the 20th Century LimitedA trio of NYC cigar band E7s leads the lengthy-as-always 20th Century Limited east on an August, 1966 evening through Dunlap, Indiana, near Elkhart. The train is shown on track 2 at the County Road 13 crossing, just steps from the location of the previous photo, a modern look at the same place. This showcases the traditional late afternoon departure of the Century from Chicago. Compare some details of this photo with the previous one, then check the next two photos for another comparison. NYC 20th Century Limited Observation "Hickory Creek"New York Central's most famous train, the 20th Century Limited speeds east through Dunlap, Indiana (near Elkhart) on the Water Level Route in August 1966. A lengthy train as always, familiar round end observation car Hickory Creek brings up the markers and trademark drumhead on the rear. Sadly, just over a year after this photo was taken, the Century ran it's last, and only weeks later, the PRR and NYC combined into the Penn Central.
