C_O-PM_Bridge_Grand_Blanc_MI_4-30-2008~4.jpg
C&O/PM bridge - Grand BlancThis girder bridge in Grand Blanc carries the CSX Saginaw Subdivision over the main thoroughfare of town. The signboards on each side reveal traces of two previous owners, the Chesapeake & Ohio, and predecessor Pere Marquette. Both roads in their day were very serious about affixing their names and logos to bridges around the state. If only CSX would see the value in doing the same. April 30, 2008.GP30M4216

CSX Cantilever SignalThis photo looks north up the CSX Saginaw Subdivision from the Bristol Road crossing in Burton, MI. It shows one of several cantilever signals along the Flint Belt which were installed in the early 1970s when the line was upgraded. Several mast signals also are included in this crossover and switch on the south side of Flint. These are plenty of interesting signals along this stretch of track... too bad there aren't more trains. April 30, 2008.GP30M4216
CSX_Bracket_Signal_Grand_Blanc_4-30-2008.jpg
Bracket Signal on the CSXThis is the last remaining active bracket signal on the CSX in Michigan, located at the south end of the Grand Blanc passing siding on the CSX Saginaw Subdivision. The Saginaw Subdivision is home to a number of cantilever and mast signals in the Flint region, but this is the only bracket signal of this type. Lansing also had a few bracket types with semaphores back in the day, and a few of the old frames remain near Ensel Yard, but today out of service. April 30, 2008.GP30M4216

Milwaukee Road 2630This old Milwaukee Road boxcar, number 2630, sits unused on a siding along the former MILW line in L'Anse, MI. This line once went all the way north to Houghton and Hancock, but has since been trimmed back to not much farther north from this spot. It's a neat old memory from the past on this line. This car is easily visible from US-41. May 2, 2008.GP30M4216
