Santa Fe SD40-2 #6301This wonderful bluebonnet shines in the morning sunlight along with other motive power at Rougemere Yard in Dearborn, MI, waiting a train assignment. #6301 is an SD40-2 and though now on the BNSF roster, still sports a well-preserved coat of Santa Fe blue and yellow. These older Santa Fe units are becoming harder to find on the road on former ATSF lines, to catching one here in Michigan was a great surprise! 6/17/05 NN photoGP30M4216

NS SD50 #6578Norfolk Southern SD50 #6578 leads an elephant style C40-9CW and mixed freight out of the former Conrail Livernois Yard in Detroit, and west over the Michigan Line. Ahead, this train will turn south beyond the old Junction Yard and onto the Junction Secondary, where it will cross the GTW at Schaefer Tower and then rejoin Former Conrail rails at CP-YD, where it will head south to Toledo and effectively avoid the bottleneck at Delray Tower. 6/17/05 NN photoGP30M4216

Conrail 8-40CW #8451Conrail painted 8-40CW #8451 and mixed freight rollsunder the west end crossover signal bridges, both from New York Central days, and eastbound into the massive Robert R. Young Yard in Elkhart, IN. This was the NYC's Water Level Route mainline from Chicago to New York, and the yard at Eljhart was the largest on the system. Conrail units are still relatively easy to find on former CR lines, but their bright blue paint is beginning to fade. July 4, 2005. NN photoGP30M4216
