Powering the unit. Not sure if that is the only power source going to the greaser or not, but it gets some power from it I'm sure

from what I can tell this one uses electrical power to pump the grease on to the rail. Older ones have a little lever the flange hits which causes a pumping action much like grease gun would produce.
